Evaluation of speech inversion using an articulatory classifier

چکیده

This paper presents an evaluation method for statistically based speech inversion, in which the estimated vocal tract shapes are classified into phoneme categories based on the articulatory correspondence with prototype vocal tract shapes. The prototypes are created using the original articulatory data and the classifier hence permits to interpret the results of the inversion in terms of, e.g., confusions between different articulations and the success in estimating different places of articulation. The articulatory classifier was used to evaluate acoustic and audiovisual speech inversion of VCV words and Swedish sentences performed with a linear estimation and an artificial neural network.

Boosting Automatic Speech Recognition through Articulatory Inversion

This paper explores whether articulatory features predicted from speech acoustics through inversion may be used to boost the recognition of context-dependent units when combined with acoustic features. For this purpose, we performed articulatory inversion on a corpus containing acoustic and electromagnetic articulography recordings from a single speaker. We then compared the performance of an H...

Method for Speech Inversion with Large Scale Statistical Evaluation

An articulatory model of speech production is created for the purpose of studying the links between speech production and perception. A computationally effective method for speech inversion in proposed, using a two-pole predictor structure in order to maintain better articulatory dynamics when compared to conventional dynamic programming methods. Preliminary tests for the effect of inversion ar...

Automatic speech recognition using articulatory features from subject-independent acoustic-to-articulatory inversion.

An automatic speech recognition approach is presented which uses articulatory features estimated by a subject-independent acoustic-to-articulatory inversion. The inversion allows estimation of articulatory features from any talker's speech acoustics using only an exemplary subject's articulatory-to-acoustic map. Results are reported on a broad class phonetic classification experiment on speech ...

Acoustic-to-articulatory inversion using a speaker-normalized HMM-based speech production model

Acoustic-to-articulatory inverse mapping is a difficult problem because of its non-linear and oneto-many characteristics. We have previously developed a speech inversion method using a hidden Markov model (HMM)-based speech production model which takes into account the phonemespecific dynamic constraints of articulatory parameters. We found that the constraint significantly decreases the estima...

On the evaluation of inversion mapping performance in the acoustic domain

The two measures typically used to assess the performance of an inversion mapping method, where the aim is to estimate what articulator movements gave rise to a given acoustic signal, are root mean squared (RMS) error and correlation. In this paper, we investigate whether “task-based” evaluation using an articulatory-controllable HMM-based speech synthesis system can give useful additional info...
